Alison by Jack Radcliffe →
When my daughter Alison was born, in the tradition of a new parent, I began to photograph her, initially in a separate and private body of work. However, in the process of documenting Alison’s growth, I developed a passionate interest in human relationships and capturing intimate moments in the lives of family and friends. This affected my photography in a profound way. Rather than the...

FEBRUARY 19, 2012
I am waiting for my two rolls of film to come back from the lab.
I am nervous in a good way.
It has been many months since I last shot with film and tried to get them developed.

All of these things better happen because I am selling my soul going against my principles.
I have actually kept up with fulfilling my resolutions for 2012, but I’m adding another one today:

Filep Motwary's interview with Paolo Roversi
A compilation of my favorite questions and answers:
Motwary: How do you always manage to photograph the most exquisite garments in the market, and how does couture help you create your images?
Roversi: I always say that the designer is the composer of the music, and the photographer plays the instrument—is the interpreter of the piece. I am the player and the designers are the composers, and...

Do you see that series of four photographs that I just reblogged?
Well, someday I’d like to do a project like that. Maybe I shouldn’t call it a project—it’s something a lot more intimate and personal than that.
But you see—someday I want to photograph a person. Just one.
And I want to photograph them every season at the same place.
The thing that stunned me is...
Don’t take it personally, but what I am about to do has nothing to do with you.
It’s all art.

I often wonder how professional/commercial photographs can stand keeping their projects for clients under wraps. You know—they probably have to sign a contract or agreement of sorts not to publish photographs until the ad campaign debuts or something, right?
I think I’ve shot a pretty interesting project and I can hardly wait to share it, but I also feel an obligation to keep it...

JANUARY 18, 2012
About half an hour ago, I guess around 9 p.m., my dad gave me his Canon EOS 500N. That’s the film camera I grew up with. That’s the camera that took all the photographs of me that ever existed when I was a kid. That’s the camera I dreaded (I’ve always hated having my portrait taken, especially because my dad would always take forever to take even...
an unlikely proposition
“In case you tire of, you know—”
“Yeah.” Yes, I know, but I wish I didn’t.
“—I’m always here.”
“O.K.” I’ll think about that.
